Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Crowned King (Again)
January 2025 saw the arrival of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and the verdict is in: it’s the reigning champion. Forget seismic shifts; the S25 Ultra refines, elevates, and utterly dominates. While not a radical departure from its predecessor, it’s a masterclass in polish, delivering the most complete and compelling smartphone experience money can buy.
With the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung has included the very best specs that are available, as you might expect. This includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. There are also 512GB and 1TB models available. Additionally, it now has a 6.9-inch QHD+ display, which is flat. The sides on the Galaxy S25 Ultra are now fully flat, whereas the Galaxy S24 Ultra has curved sides. This does make it a bit more comfortable to hold.
Speaking of the display, Samsung is using Corning glass called Gorilla Armor 2. This reduces the reflections on the Galaxy S25 Ultra quite considerably. Comparing this side-by-side with other phones, you can really notice the difference. It first debuted on the Galaxy S24 Ultra last year as Gorilla Armor 2, which Samsung says has decreased screen repairs by 60% compared to previous Ultra models.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra boasts a battery that just won’t quit. Forget battery anxiety – we’re talking double-digit hours of screen-on time, consistently exceeding 10 hours. In our lab, it streamed video for an impressive 22 hours straight. While that’s a hair behind its predecessor in that specific test, the real-world experience tells a different story: expect to squeeze an extra two glorious hours of screen time compared to the S24 Ultra. This is a phone that powers through your day and then some.
The camera is here, and the 10x telephoto lens, a rumor mill favorite for replacement, remains absent. The Galaxy S25 Ultra sticks with the 5x telephoto it adopted last year. But don’t despair, Samsung has upped the ultrawide ante, swapping in a new 50MP sensor. While it bins down to roughly 12.5MP, the increased pixel size unlocks a treasure trove of detail, especially when capturing those intricate macro shots.
Samsung still has some pretty good deals available for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, even though pre-orders are over.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra –$1299
Behold the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: a titan forged for the discerning eye. Its 200MP camera isn’t just a sensor; it’s a portal to hyper-realistic detail, capturing moments with breathtaking clarity. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 roars to life, obliterating lag and unleashing unparalleled power. Feast your eyes on the immersive 6.9-inch AMOLED display, a canvas of vibrant colors and infinite contrast. This isn’t just a phone; it’s a statement. For those who demand the pinnacle of performance, photographic prowess, and enduring battery life, the S25 Ultra reigns supreme.

Best Budget Flagship Phone

OnePlus 13
The name for this category is a bit of an oxymoron, but it makes perfect sense for the OnePlus 13. This phone is about $400 less than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, yet it has almost all of the same features, minus the S Pen. In fact, it even has some features that Samsung is lacking, like IP69. Who remembers when OnePlus wouldn’t even get an IP rating, to save money? My how things have changed.
The phone boasts a stunning 6.82-inch QHD+ display, dynamically adjusting to a silky smooth 120Hz. While it’s shielded by Ceramic Guard Glass, that gorgeous quad-curved design is a scratch magnet – trust me, I learned the hard way. A case isn’t just recommended; it’s mandatory.
Under the hood, the upcoming OnePlus flagship roars to life with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, paired with a generous 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage respectively. Craving even more power? A beastly 24GB RAM/1TB storage configuration exists, but sadly, it’s currently exclusive to the Chinese market.
The OnePlus 13 sticks with a winning formula: a trio of 50MP sensors. But the real magic lies in the 3x telephoto lens. It doesn’t just stop there; clever sensor cropping unlocks a stunning 6x optical zoom. Honestly, the cameras have blown me away. I’m calling it – these are easily some of the best smartphone cameras I’ve used. The image quality is simply phenomenal.
Let’s talk power. The OnePlus 13 packs a colossal 6,000mAh battery into a surprisingly slim 8.5mm frame. That’s muscle in a minimalist package. In our everyday grind, we squeezed a solid 10 hours of screen-on time. But the real test? We looped video until the lights went out, clocking in at an astonishing 22 hours and 35 minutes. That’s enough to binge an entire season of your favorite show on a single charge! Even more impressive, it edges out the Galaxy S25 Ultra by roughly 30 minutes. While both titans deliver comparable real-world endurance, remember this: the OnePlus 13 achieves this with a battery that’s nearly 17% larger. Think of it as raw, unadulterated power, ready to tackle whatever you throw at it.

OnePlus 13 –$899
Unleash the future with the OnePlus 13. Imagine a world painted on a breathtaking 6.82-inch QHD+ AMOLED display, fueled by the lightning-fast Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. This isn’t just a phone; it’s a portal to seamless performance and vibrant visuals. Conquer your day with a colossal 6,000mAh battery, ensuring you’re always powered up for the adventure. Capture the extraordinary with a trio of 50MP Hasselblad-tuned cameras, transforming everyday moments into timeless masterpieces. Rain or shine, the IP69 water resistance provides unwavering durability. The OnePlus 13: where power meets artistry, all at an irresistible price.

Best Foldable Android Phone

OnePlus Open Apex
The OnePlus Open isn’t the latest foldable Android smartphone to hit the market, but it still blows everyone else out of the water. Not only does the OnePlus Open destroy the competition on the spec sheet, but also in price. It has a price of $1,699, that’s at least $100 less than the competitors, and it also offers some really great trade-in deals – like $200 off any phone in any condition, including one that was on fire. In 2024, OnePlus relaunched the Open as the Apex Edition which now offers a 1TB model with a stunning red color and a new privacy switch that will instantly kill access to the camera and microphone.
OnePlus didn’t just enter the foldable arena with the Open; they stormed it. Staying true to their DNA of top-tier performance, they aimed to redefine what a foldable can be. Feast your eyes on this: a stunning 6.31-inch external display, perfectly proportioned at 20:9, and a massive 7.8-inch inner canvas. Both boast a razor-sharp 2K resolution, buttery-smooth adaptive 120Hz refresh rates, and a scorching 2,800 nits of peak brightness. Believe the hype – these are arguably the most breathtaking displays ever crammed into a foldable form factor. Under the hood? A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor roars to life, backed by a colossal 16GB of RAM and a staggering 512GB of storage. Powering this beast is a robust 4,805mAh battery. This isn’t just competitive; it’s a knockout. We’re talking more RAM, double the storage, and a bigger battery than the rivals dare to offer.
But OnePlus didn’t stop there. Not only is this a larger battery, but it’s also one of the fastest charging ones, with 67W charging included. Not to mention, the charger is included in the box. So you can charge up in under an hour. The battery life on the OnePlus Open is quite nice. Actually, I’ve been using it for quite some time, and I really enjoy the battery life here. It can sometimes get me through two days of usage.
But the big thing for OnePlus is the software. This is running OxygenOS 13.2 with Android 13 and will get Android 14 pretty soon. But that’s still not the software story; Open Canvas is. With Open Canvas, OnePlus has literally opened the screen to allow you to do virtually anything. Basically, think of this as having screen real estate that’s larger than the actual screen. Open Canvas lets you open multiple apps on the screen at once, and you can even push apps off-screen and keep them open. Check out this Instagram Reel I put together to see more of what I mean here.
The Open checks a lot of boxes for people about foldables. And that includes the display crease. With the OnePlus Open, the display crease is almost non-existent. Sure, you can see it in the right light if you’re looking for it. But for the most part, you’re not going to notice the crease here, and that is rather impressive. I’ve been using the phone for over a year now and never even thought about the crease. I can’t say the same thing about the competition, though.
The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to launch soon, with the OPPO Find N5 set for a February 20 release date. However, we are confident that the Open 2 won’t be launching at the same time, this year. It will likely be closer to the Summer.

OnePlus Open Apex –$1,299
Unleash the extraordinary with the OnePlus Open Apex Edition, a foldable masterpiece where raw power meets breathtaking design. Inside beats the heart of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, fueled by a staggering 16GB of RAM and a colossal 1TB of storage – your digital universe, seamlessly at your fingertips. But the real magic lies in its Crimson Shadow finish, a textured faux leather that whispers tales of legendary Hasselblad cameras. It’s not just a phone; it’s a statement, a tactile tribute to photographic excellence.

Motorola Razr Plus (2024)
The Motorola Razr Plus (2024) had some pretty big shoes to fill, after the 2023 model captured a lot of hearts. But, Motorola did it again. This year, Motorola provided the Razr Plus with an even larger cover display, a pretty big upgrade in processor, and swapped out the ultrawide camera for a telephoto camera. All of which makes this an incredible flip phone, even better than Samsung’s latest offerings.
With the Motorola Razr Plus (2024), we really liked that larger cover display. This display is able to run full apps, unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 6, and basically any Android app out there. This means you can use X, Google Maps, Facebook, or anything on that front display without opening up the phone, which is a really nice feature. Honestly, I end up using that outer display way more than the internal display because I can do doomscrolling on X without opening the phone.
Say goodbye to battery anxiety! Motorola’s latest leap boasts a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor – a serious upgrade from the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 – paired with a boosted 4,000mAh battery. Translation? All-day power without the panic. And unlike its flip phone rivals, Motorola throws in lightning-fast charging. Need a quick power boost? Top it off in minutes and get back to what matters.
Motorola is really making flip phones fun again with the new Razr Plus this year, and it’s by far one of my favorite flip phones on the market today.

Motorola Razr Plus (2024) –$999
Unfold a world of possibilities with the Motorola Razr Plus (2024), a flip phone reimagined. Prepare to be captivated by its stunning 6.9-inch pOLED main display and a game-changing 4-inch external screen, both boasting silky-smooth 165Hz refresh rates. This isn’t just a phone; it’s a statement. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, paired with a generous 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, ensures effortless performance that keeps pace with your fast-paced life. Get ready to experience iconic style redefined with uncompromising power.

Motorola Razr (2024)
Much like the Razr Plus last year, the regular Razr also turned a lot of heads. It was the cheapest folding flip phone on the market. And it actually received some pretty major upgrades this year, while keeping the same price. It’s still $699 (though at the time of writing this, it’s been $399 for a few weeks, which is a killer deal), and offers quite a few upgrades.
Forget glancing – now you’reimmersed. The revamped cover display dominates the phone’s facade, transforming it into a vibrant Android playground. Weather updates dance before your eyes, Spotify serenades you with a tap, and your social feeds flow effortlessly, mirroring the Razr Plus experience. But a twist: Motorola swapped Qualcomm for MediaTek, opting for the Dimensity 7300X. On paper, that looks like a step back. In reality? We pushed it hard, and honestly, it felt surprisingly similar to last year’s Snapdragon-powered Razr.
The new Razr clings to a 4,200mAh battery, a decision that, paired with the Dimensity 7300X chipset, hints at seriously impressive battery life. Now, about that camera… Last year’s Razr boasted a 64MP sensor, but this time around, Motorola’s opted for 50MP. Downgrade? Not so fast. Think bigger – literally. The larger pixels on this year’s sensor promise a leap in image quality.

Motorola Razr (2024) –$699
Imagine a time machine that spits out a sleek, futuristic device with a satisfyingsnap. That’s the Motorola Razr (2024). It’s not just a phone; it’s a conversation starter, a head-turner, a modern marvel draped in retro cool. Forget boring slabs – this foldable flaunts a vibrant 6.9-inch pOLED screen that unfolds into a visual feast, boasting a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Need a quick peek? The 3.6-inch external display keeps you connected without even flipping it open. Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, ensures a lag-free experience. The Razr (2024) doesn’t just do the job; it does it with flair.

Google Pixel 8a Review AM AH 17
Google Pixel 9a
The Google Pixel 9a is the new Best Budget Android Phone, and that should come as no surprise. At $499, the Pixel 9a packs a whole lot of phone at a low price. Google has increased the screen size to 6.3 inches this time around. It also sports 8GB of RAM and the new Tensor G4 processor. Though Google did opt for the older modem, so it’s not quite as efficient as the more expensive Pixel 9 models.
In my Google Pixel 9a review, I said that Google hit another home run with this phone. And I firmly believe that. There’s almost no reason to upgrade to the Pixel 9, which is $300 more. You’re getting an incredible set of cameras on the Pixel 9a, along with Google’s computational photography. You are also getting a compact phone with pretty high-end specs, something we don’t see a whole lot in the smartphone world these days. And Google also fixed one of my biggest issues, and that is the backside is now matte. Before, it was glossy, which could get pretty ugly pretty quickly.
It’s not all puppy dogs and rainbows for the Pixel 9a, however.Googleis still providing pretty slow charging here, both wired and wireless. Even though it did increase this year, compared to the Pixel 8a. It has now been upgraded to 23W, though with a 5,100mAh capacity battery, it is still quite slow.
If you’re in the market for a good phone that doesn’t cost a ton, this is the one to get.

Google Pixel 9a –$499
Forget everything you think you know about mid-range phones. The Google Pixel 9a arrives, not as a compromise, but as a declaration: flagship experiences don’t need flagship prices. Under the hood, Google’s Tensor G4 processor unleashes snappy performance, while a brilliant 6.3-inch OLED display bursts with color, bringing your content to life. Capture stunning photos with its intelligent dual-camera system (48MP wide + 13MP ultrawide), turning everyday moments into shareable masterpieces. Power through your day and beyond with a massive 5,100 mAh battery – that’s over 24 hours of freedom. Life happens, rain or shine? The Pixel 9a shrugs it off with IP68 water resistance. And because Google believes in longevity, you’re guaranteed seven years of software updates, ensuring your phone stays fresh and secure for years to come. The Pixel 9a isn’t just a phone; it’s a smart investment in a device that’s built to last.
Best Gaming Android Phone
AH ROG Phone 8 Pro AniMe Vision
ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro
With theASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro, the company was able to keep its place as the best gaming phone available. In fact, inour reviewback in January, we called it the “gold standard of gaming phones.”
Forget "cheap" – let’s talk powerhouse. The ROG Phone 9 Pro doesn’t just play games; it devours them. We’re talking a starting price of $1,199, soaring past $1,500 for maxed-out configurations, and for good reason. Prepare to be mesmerized by its silky-smooth 6.78-inch, 165Hz adaptive display, then unleash the raw fury of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, backed by a staggering 24GB of RAM and a cavernous 1TB of storage. Low battery anxiety? A thing of the past, thanks to the monstrous 5,800mAh battery. When you finally need to refuel, 65W wired and 15W wireless charging get you back in the action lightning-fast. This isn’t just a phone; it’s a portable gaming rig that laughs in the face of limitations.
The ROG Phone 9 Pro sheds its gaudy gamer skin, finally. This isn’t your neon-drenched, aggressively angled stereotype. Think stealth bomber, not arcade cabinet. If you crave power without the peacocking, the ROG Phone 9 Pro delivers. And let’s be honest, the battery life? It’s legendary. Enough said.

ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro –$1,199
Unleash gaming dominance with the ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro, a titan forged for the most demanding players. At its heart roars the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, fueled by a staggering 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, obliterating lag and loading times. Witness visuals like never before on the expansive 6.78-inch AMOLED display, where a blistering 185Hz refresh rate and mind-boggling 720Hz touch sampling rate converge, creating an experience so fluid, so responsive, it’s almost unfair. Prepare to redefine your limits.
Best Compact Android Phone
Google Pixel 9 AM AH 11
Google Pixel 9
Google is keeping their compact option around for another year with theGoogle Pixel 9. There’s also the Pixel 9 Pro, which we recommend if you want a phone with a telephoto camera. Otherwise, thePixel 9is a really good option and it starts at $799 for the 128GB model.
Forget curved edges and bubble-like camera bumps! The Pixel 9 arrives with a sleek, flattened design in four captivating shades: Obsidian, Porcelain, the cool-toned Wintergreen, and the blush of Peony. This year, Google’s traded soft curves for a confident, flat aesthetic. The result? A streamlined silhouette that bids farewell to the familiar Pixel look, and whispers echoes of a certain fruit-branded competitor.
In our Google Pixel 9 Review, we called it Google’s “Answer to the iPhone” and also praised the battery life and updates. Google is promising 7 years of updates for thePixel 9 series, much like the Pixel 8 has. Battery life on the Pixel 9 is also quite good, thanks to the changes Google made to the modem and for thermals this year. Speaking of the modem, it is insanely good. I’ve achieved much better signal on both mobile and WiFi on the Pixel 9 versus almost any other phone.
Despite only having two cameras, thePixel 9 does score really well in DxOMark’s testing. It’s tied for 10th place worldwide with a score of 154. It is also the highest-rated dual-camera smartphone. All others above it, have three or more cameras. Google has included a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor. This does give you a 2x optical zoom option, but no 5x zoom like the Pixel 9 Pro (and Pro XL) offer.
Craving that pure, unadulterated Android experience, but in a pocket-friendly package? The Pixel 9 might just be your perfect match.

Google Pixel 9 –$799
Unleash the future with the Google Pixel 9, where cutting-edge AI meets breathtaking design. Prepare to be captivated by its vibrant 6.3-inch OLED display, boasting a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate – visuals dance before your eyes. Under the hood, the revolutionary Tensor G4 processor, paired with a generous 12GB of RAM, makes lag a distant memory. Capture the world in stunning detail with the Pixel 9’s dual-lens marvel: a 50MP main sensor for unforgettable moments and a 48MP ultrawide lens for sweeping landscapes. Selfies? Elevate them with the crystal-clear 10.5MP front camera. The Pixel 9 isn’t just a phone; it’s an experience.
Best Camera Android Phone

Google Pixel 9 Pro XL
Surprisingly, theGoogle Pixel 9 Pro XLhas the best camera on a phone sold in the US. Of course, if you look at phones sold outside of the US, there are plenty of better camera phones. But, we’re focused on the United States here, so Pixel 9 Pro XL it is. We can also recommend the Pixel 9 Pro with this one since those cameras are exactly the same, aside from the size. Google now lets you choose whether you want a 6.3-inch display or a 6.8-inch display.
Inside thePixel 9 Pro XLis the Tensor G4 chipset, with 16GB of RAM and it starts at 128GB of storage, going up to 1TB. The Tensor G4, while not the most powerful processor on the market, is much improved over the Tensor G3. This includes much better thermals and a much-improved modem. Two major issues that affected the Pixel 8 series last year.
Forget the hype, forget the noise. The Pixel 9 Pro isn’t justaphone, it’smyphone. For months, it’s been my daily lifeline, and honestly, nothing else comes close. The camera? Let’s just say my DSLR is gathering dust. Battery life? Finally, a phone that can keep up withmyday. And the software? Pure, unadulterated Android bliss. But it’s more than just specs. It’s the way it melts into my hand, a perfect extension of my digital self. The Pixel 9 Pro isn’t just good, it’s genuinely exceptional.
However, this is the best camera phone on our list, and DxOMark agrees. It’scurrently ranked #2 in the world, on the camera front, behind theHuawei Pura 70 Ultra. In our review, we tested a good number of features on the Pixel 9 Pro XL camera, including Zoom Enhance which was supposed to launch last year. It’s pretty good, but far from perfect. Google also has a bunch of AI features in Magic Editor, like adding things to your photos. But what about the non-AI edited photos? Those look really good, too. They have the usual Google Pixel look, which is a bit warmer than normal, and they also do quite well with different skin tones.
ThePixel 9 Pro starts at $999, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL at $1,099. As mentioned, these are the exact same phones, the only difference is the screen size and thus the battery size.

Google Pixel 9 Pro XL –$1,099
Behold, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL: where AI genius meets breathtaking hardware. Prepare to be mesmerized by its expansive 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display, a canvas of vibrant color and silky-smooth 120Hz motion. Under the hood, Google’s revolutionary Tensor G4 processor, paired with a staggering 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, unleashes a torrent of seamless performance. Capture the world in exquisite detail with its revolutionary triple-lens camera system: a 50MP wide lens for stunning landscapes, a 48MP ultrawide lens with Macro Focus to reveal hidden wonders, and a 48MP 5x telephoto lens that brings distant horizons within your grasp, all culminating in a mind-blowing 30x Super Res Zoom.

OnePlus 13R
TheOnePlus 13Ris an amazing value. This phone costs just $599, yet has a lot of the flagship features we’ve seen on other devices. It’s running on the older Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is still a very capable chipset. And many would say it offers better efficiency than the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite.OnePluspairs that with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which is pretty incredible for the price.
The OnePlus 13R plunges you into visuals with its expansive 6.78-inch FHD+ display. Experience silky-smooth scrolling and gameplay thanks to its adaptive refresh rate, intelligently scaling up to 120Hz. Clad in Corning Gorilla Glass 7i for ultimate scratch resistance, this screen blazes with a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, ensuring vivid clarity even under direct sunlight. For everyday use, expect a still-impressive 1,600 nits in high brightness mode.
At $599, this phone isn’t just a great deal; it’s a steal. Unless you’re chasing the bleeding edge, seriously consider this one. OnePlus sweetens the pot with a promise: four years of OS upgrades and five years of security patches, ensuring your investment stays future-proofed for years to come.
The real kicker? OnePlus pulled off a magic trick: squeezing a massive 6,000mAh battery into a frame that’s a mere 8mm thin – unbelievably, that’s trimmer than the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra. Teamed with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, prepare for battery life that laughs in the face of power drain. And when you finallydoneed a boost, the included 80W charger refills your tank at warp speed, right out of the box.

OnePlus 13R –$599
The OnePlus 13R isn’t just a phone; it’s a performance beast unleashed on a budget. Imagine a screen that flows like liquid silk – that’s its 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display, boasting a buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
